Water is Slow To Warm Up

If the water isn’t warming up as quickly as it used to, then there could be something wrong with the heating element or thermostat of your tankless water heater. If water in tank heaters takes a long while to warm up, there could be a number of issues. The heating element could be giving out, the thermostat coils could be faulty, or too much sediment could be built up inside the tank.

Water Temperatures are Inconsistent

Hot water systems are designed with a thermostat that helps control and regulate the temperature of the water. If the water temperatures seem to be warmer one day and cooler the next in a tank system, there could be a fault with the thermostat or heating element. Strange Noises

Most hot water systems are completely inaudible. If you do suddenly hear your unit make strange noises – or even normal humming noises when it used to be perfectly quiet – then there is likely something wrong. The element or unit might be working harder to warm up the water, which can cause your energy bill to start spiking. This extra effort can also shorten the lifespan of the water heater or might cause it to burn out.

Water Leaks

Water dripping from the unit or from the tank could be a sign of some loose valves or corroded fittings. Unfortunately, this problem can also present if the tank is cracked or if there is a pressure valve relief problem. If your water heater’s tank is fitted inside the ceiling, then it can be hard to notice this type of problem. You will need to watch for dark markings on the ceiling boards.

Low Hot Water Pressure

If the water pressure in your cold taps is good, but your hot water tap has low pressure, then there could be some clogs, sediment buildup, or mineral deposits. There could also be a leak in your hot water system. 

Your Hot Water Unit is Old

Most hot water systems will work well for about 8 years. After this, it might start showing some signs of wear. If your unit is 12 years or older, then you should start saving up for a new unit.
