Energy Efficiency Ratings

The regulations related to hot water systems have evolved in the past few years. In the two federal phases, 2010 and 2012, the installation and usage of electric hot water systems have changed a lot.

After these phases, the hot water systems are now subject to a type of energy efficiency rating regulated by the Government’s MEPS scheme. In the scheme, the star rating of the water heaters is used to compare the electric hot water units of the same fuel type. For instance, more number of stars simply means that the system is more efficient. However, it is necessary to note that for solar systems, the ratings are applied to the booster of the unit.

WaterMark Certification

In Australia, you would frequently find the WaterMark certification on plumbing products, including hot water products. This mark is originally a creation of Standards Australia. It is regularly used for drainage, plumbing, water supply, and sewerage products to indicate that the product complies with regulations and is prepared and installed with high-quality and safety.

These regulations are governed by the State. However, Standards Australia works in sync with the regulators to approve and certify these products under the certification of the WaterMark scheme for better services.

Temperature and Installation

The regulations of various states are unanimous. For instance, according to these regulations, the temperature of the tank which is used to store water should be more than 60-degree to avoid bacterial growth in the tank. Similarly, the water dispensed from the tap should not be more than 50-degree to avoid scalding and mishaps.

These situations and regulations are controlled by providers in a different manner, whether through a natural method or a temperature control unit. Due to these necessary elements, you need to make sure a licensed plumber is installing your unit. This helps in following regulations.

Any plumber who is installing your gas hot water unit must have the license to do so. Like this, a plumber  Sydney installing an electric unit should have the license for the same. These qualifications are necessary to ensure the right fittings and installation.
